I’m feeling a bit better today. I still have soreness in my side and shoulder from coughing and I also think it’s exacerbated by the pinched nerve I got from my card accident a few years ago.
I drug myself to work on Monday and despite feeling okay enough to function, it still hurt when I laughed or coughed or even burped! LOL In the afternoon though, I realized that I felt a bit a feverish but just wondered if it was because I was wearing a turtleneck with a sweatshirt over it (I was chilly when I woke up that morning and sometimes, that how I gauge what I’m going to wear that day).
My temperature when I got home was about 99.1 degrees. Just enough of a low grade to realize that hey, I might really be sick here but not enough for me to panic. I jumped into a hot shower only because that was the most relief I got for the pain in my side. My fever did spike but that was expected given the hot water. Ate some dinner and realized my back still hurt so I retreated back into the bedroom where I watched most of our Monday TV shows through our mirror since I could only handle laying on my left side (my right side was still in a lot of pain).
I finally popped a few ibuprofen to help with the pain and break the fever and of course, right before bed, I started feeling quite a bit better.
Here’s some advice for you sick people: don’t WebMD yourself! By the time I went to bed I had gone through all the scenarios from a broken rib to needing my gall bladder removed.
Thankfully (I guess), we had today off work in honor of Veteren’s Day and I spent it in Urgent Care. I didn’t feel horrible when I woke up but I was still in pain and figured after four days it was time to get it checked out. I’ve been to Urgent Care before for an ankle sprain and I LOVE IT!!!!! We didn’t have anything like it in Pennsylvania and for random things like this, where I don’t have a General Practitioner and am just one-time sick, I’m in and out for the price of a copay. It’s almost like a mini ER but for lesser emergencies and cheaper!
I waited for maybe twenty minutes before they let me in and did the usual blood pressure and temperature. The doctor wasn’t 100% sure what was wrong so they ordered a chest x-ray, urine samples and bloodwork. The chest x-ray I expected, the bloodwork I was hoping to not have to do.
For any of you longtime readers, you probably know I’m terrified of needles as I’m sure I’ve mentioned once or twice. Everybody says, “It doesn’t hurt” or “We use small needles” or stuff like that. And it has nothing to do with it. It’s the anticipation and the actual puncturing of the skin (I have a hard time watching medical shows - the thought of stuff just going into the skin grosses me out). But lately, when I’ve had to get it done, I just kind of sucked it up because I know it needs to be done. It still required me to put my t-shirt over my face and the nurse to talk me down from hyperventilating a bit but it was much better than in the past.
The x-ray and urine sample came out fine. The doctor said I picked the busiest part of the body to have issues with as my gall bladder, kidneys, lungs and colon was right in the area where the pain was. They were essentially playing the rule out game. I was sent home with an initial diagnosis of bronchitis and stocked up on a Z-Pac, cough medicine with codeine (yea! LOL), and Albuterol. We had to wait on my bloodwork as my insurance required it be sent out instead of processed at Urgent Care.
Got my scripts filled at Target and bought some sick supplies (juice and Pringles!) then headed home. Took my first round of medicine and passed out on the couch as the codeine made me sleepy. Of course, as I was half-doped up, the phone rang and I had to stumble to get it. But it was all good because it was the doctor’s office telling me that the bloodwork came back clean with the exception of the fact that my white blood cells were a bit high but they told me the Z-Pac should take care of it.
So overall, the day was uneventful. Just laying around being sick and trying to take care of myself. I’ll have a few more days like that as they want me out of work until Friday. Which just means I’ll be at home working instead of going into the office.
Even when I’m sick, it never stops!!
