The Invention of Lying (2009)
4/5
I'm always hesitant when it comes to British comedy and since I knew Ricky Gervais was so loosely associated with that genre, I was hesitant of this movie. But I'm glad we watched it because it was refreshing, funny, and just downright good. I LIKED it but mostly because I think it was set in an American setting. I LIKE Ricky Gervais and find him charming and quirky and even a bit handsome. Even Jennifer Garner didn't irritate me in this one like she does in others. And the concept was purely refreshing - what an inventive and fun storyline - a world where no one lies and then someone figures out how. But it was sweet and charming too. I definitely think that was one of the good ones.

The Hills Run Red (2009) (V)
1.5/5
Steve is a huge fan of B-movie horror flicks so when we saw this as a preview for another movie, he had me add it to the queue. *insert eye roll here* It was bad, so, so bad. So stupidly B-movie bad. There's not much else I can say about it than stupid, bad, worthless, lame.
0.3
PCU (1994)
3.5/5
I think was another one of those you had to see it when it came out to appreciate it. Steve said it was good and there were some funny moments, but I didn't find it that overall entertaining. To me it was kind of bland and cliche and had no general point to it. Then again, it was about college so I guess maybe that was the actual point.
0.3
Gamer (2009)
3.5/5
A lot of people didn't like Gamer but I actually did. The concept was fun and good for an easy storyline. Of course, I like Gerard Butler. But even Ludacris and Michael C Hall stood out. It was fast paced and filled with explosions and had a fairly generic easy story that moved forward quickly. Not an Oscar winner for sure but definitely a fun afternoon movie.
0.3
Pandorum (2009)
4/5
This movie creeped the shit out of me but it was actually kind of good. I'm never a HUGE fan of sci-fi but I liked this one. I loved the storyline and the ending and the characters and acting were decent too. It was a refreshing point of view for a horror sci-fi type movie.
0.3
Angels & Demons (2009)
3.5/5
I don't care what people say about it, I kind of liked both this and The Da Vinci Code as movie adaptations. I didn't read this one but that's ok. I enjoy them because of the puzzles - the solving the mystery with the puzzle of history. It's Ron Howard and Tom Hanks - there's not much that can go awful. While some might see it as rather vanilla, and I can see why, I think it was intriguing and entertaining. Perfect for a movie!

Notorious (2009)
2.5/5
Having been a fan of Biggie (though I always preferred Tupac), I was interested to see this movie. It wasn't awful but it wasn't good either. The fact that Biggie's mom and Puffy produced this made it a very one-sided story that seemed to glorify Biggie and vilify Tupac, which in reality you know BOTH camps and rappers were responsible for their untimely fates. I love Angela Bassett so I can't complain about anything she does. And Jamal Woolard was a standout as Biggie. But the actors who played Tupac and Puffy were nothing but caricatures - awful, awful caricatures. I think this should have waited until the people closest to him were gone and the rightful story with the rightful portrayal of all characters could be told.

Carriers (2009)
3/5
This movie pleasantly surprised me. It's certainly not one of the more popular zombie/worldwide infection movies but it was entertaining and had a decent storyline. The focus on the characters as the antagonists instead of the sick was a nice change. It was rather slow but quiet. I wouldn't say it was the strongest movie but it was nice for a weekend day at home.
0.3
This movie was great and I think it deserves to win Best Picture over Avatar. It was gripping, emotional and raw. Overall intense. The acting was perfect, Jeremy Renner was a standout. Fabulous!
0.3
I can't even think of anything good to say, which saddens me because I love Bradley Cooper and Sandra Bullock. I had heard bad reviews but figured I'd give it a shot. It was so bad. So awkward. So painful to watch. I couldn't figure out if it was supposed to be a quirky, indie film or a light, romantic comedy. It was the first movie I'd seen in awhile where I truly felt I had wasted two hours. Definitely worth all the Razzie nominations it received and won.
0.3
What an enjoyable, albeit dark, movie! I read good reviews of it on Netflix so I figured we'd give it a try and wasn't disappointed. Emily Blunt and Amy Adams were both superb and while it had macabre undertones, there were truly some laugh out loud moments. Definitely glad I checked it out!
0.3
Orphan (2009)
4/5
This movie exceeded all the minute expectations I had for it. I thought it was going to be something along the lines of The Good Son or The Omen but it was much better than the both. I love Vera Farmiga and Peter Sarsgaard in almost anything they do and this is no exception. But the standout star her was Isabelle Fuhrman, who played Esther superbly, gravitating back and forth between sweet and innocent to out and out evil. Even the young kids, Max and Danny, who had to carry a lot of the movie stood out. The ending was a bit cliched but overall, the story was strong with a unique perspective. Definitely like this alot.

Up (2009)
4.5/5
Oh, how I loved this movie! I had heard about how good it was, albeit quite sad and everyone was right. There is sadness in the beginning but it's the driving force to move the plot and the moral where it needs to go. I can't talk enough about the beauty of it. The story, the animation, the characters. I love Mr. Ferguson, love him! And who doesn't want a Kevin or a Dug after seeing this (I swear Dug is my dog!). Another great movie from Disney/Pixar.
0.3
(500) Days of Summer (2009)
4/5
I loved this movie! It was a nice little quirky romantic comedy that avoided the cliched happily ever after ending where everything works out and all the characters get back together. Thomas Gordon-Levitt was great as the young guy who falls hopelessly in love with Summer (Zoey Deschanel), who isn't quite into a long-term relationship. There were some funny moments in this but it's more of a drama/black comedy. Definitely a nice perspective on relationships and love.
0.3
A Perfect Getaway (2009)
3.5/5
I was looking forward to seeing this movie more than Steve and we both agreed it was most interesting toward the end. The previews ruined it by alluding to a big twist at the end so we had that figured out in the first 15 minutes or so. But it was an interesting take on things and not completely expected. Overall, it was definintely an enjoyable movie and I've always loved Mila Jovovich and find Timothy Olyphant enchanting in most everything he does. I wasn't blown away but I wasn't disappointed either.
0.3
Avatar (2009)
5/5
Holy fuckin' wow! I must say when I first started reading about Avatar, I wasn't even remotely interested in it. But Steve's brother took us as a Christmas present and three hours later, I left the theater thoroughly enchanted with my mind blown. This is James Cameron at his best. This is some of the most original conceptualization I have seen in years. Sure, the story is common, the ideas may be a bit stale, but the fact that he created this entire world, visually concentrating on every last detail of that world just amazes me. I only wish I had half the talent of this man. Easily, hands down the best movie of the year (I saw it twice - once on 12/26 and once on 1/3)
0.3
This was actually a lot better than I thought and I didn't expect much from it so I was pleasantly surprised. I had a hard time believing the chemistry between Witherspoon and Vaughan but other than that, there were some really funny moments. Vaughan was his usual fast-talking overanimated self but moments like when the baby throws up on Reese and he spends the next five minutes gagging are comedy gold. The humor is this film is best from their respective families and how each plays up their own crazy scenarios - Vaughan's hillbilly, redneck Dad (Robert Duvall) and white trash MMA wrestler brothers to Witherspoon's cougar den mother (Mary Steenburgen) to Vaughan's hippie mom (Sissy Spacek) who has creepily taken up with one of his childhood friends. Definitely lighthearded and funny, not a classic but not a bad movie either.
0.3
Scrooged (1988)
3.5/5
I'd never seen this and Steve it was one of his favorite Christmas movies, so we watched it over vacation. Definitely Bill Murray at his finest. Fairly enjoyable to watch but definitely won't be adding it to my favorite Christmas movie list. I like Bill Murray but I don't love him so sometimes the humor is a bit dry for me.
0.3
G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009)
3/5
I didn't play with GI Joes when I was young, so there was some of the fanboy luster lacking in my experience of this movie. But shit blew up, guns went off, people fought each other, there were big vehicles - typical action fare. Another take it or leave it film to add to the trenches.
0.3
The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard (2009)
3/5
I'd go just eh on this one. Jeremy Piven can either be really funny or really irritating (mostly irritating) and in this one, he was definitely not funny. It had its moments but wasn't entertaining enough overall to warrant a "good" movie. Definitely a wait until it comes on TV movie.
0.3
We watched this on a whim on a Sunday because I'd thought I'd never seen it but then I realized I'd seen enough. It was lackluster to me and I know it's a cult hit but maybe it's one of those you need to see in it's own time to appreciate. I just found it kind of slow and boring and not all that interesting. Good music and the characters were decently played but overall, kind of don't get the popularity.
0.3
The Blind Side (2009)
4.5/5
The Blind Side is another one of those movies where I saw the previews and never paid attention to it, never thought it'd be something I was interested in. But am I glad that we all decided to see it because this movie was wonderful. I have always loved Sandra Bullock and damn, if she didn't shine in this movie. And what a great feel good story, especially knowing that it's true. I especially loved SJ, the little boy - he provided perfect comic relief and the kid who played him was superb with his timing. But I was thoroughly distracted by Tim McGraw having HAIR! HELLO HOTTIE! :-) Anyway, this is definitely one of the better movies of the year and if you have a free afternoon, definitely check it out.
0.3
Ghosts of Girlfriends Past (2009)
2/5
Oh my lord, what a horrible, horrible film! Now, I'm a sucker for a decent chick flick (since I am, after all, a chick) and I do love looking at Matthew McConaughey. But this thing was so awful. There were absolutely zero chemistry between McConaughey and Garner. I had a hard time believing that she would fall for such a cad. The whole shoddy take on a Christmas carol was superficial and lacked any kind of depth. It was just so hard to watch, even for a romance. Don't waste your time or money, there's much better romantic comedies out there.
0.3
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
4/5
I remember seeing this in 2004 in the theater and having to inform my boss that just because it was a Jim Carrey movie, doesn't mean it was going to be funny. I also remember loving it but not understanding it. This second time around, I think I understood it a bit more and loved it a little less. I'm not saying the film wasn't wonderful, because it was and I still love it. It just confuses me at times because it jumps around and truthfully, that's my downfall because that's what it's supposed to do. The actors, especially Carrey and Winslet, turn in stunning performances and the movie does a great job of showing that love and memories of that love aren't neccessarily about the grand scheme of the relationship but the small moments and those small moments are what we can cherish in the past and help us move forward when we've inevitably reached the point that the love has ended. It truly was a beautiful film and I think I just need to watch it over and over to keep appreciating it fully.
0.3
Unfortunately, I found this movie to be lackluster and overall awkward. This isn't a normal Seth Rogen film - it's dark and tense and strange. There are some funny parts but mostly you walk out feeling like you just watched Paul Blart: Peeping Tom. Just strange.
0.3
Spread (2009)
3/5
I gravitate back and forth between liking Ashton Kutcher and hating him. This movie kind of left me awkwardly in the middle. It seems like he's just playing himself, a young womanizer model living off rich women in LA. But you quickly discover there's more to him than seems and that he actually might be capable of being a nice guy. Whether this was supposed to be a statement about him or that world in general, I don't know because the movie just sort of abruptly ended and you're not exactly sure what it was all supposed to mean. Funny parts, definitely but overall, not that entertaining.
0.3
The Men Who Stare at Goats (2009)
2.5/5
This one wasn't my bag. I admit I'd had a glass or two of wine before it but even if I hadn't been drinking, I would have still been thoroughly confused by it. I didn't get it and while there were some funny moments, there just weren't enough to keep me interested. Overall - blegh!
0.3
I thought this was going to end up being an i.Robot knockoff but it was actually pretty enjoyable with a different take than I thought it was going to be. I love Bruce Willis and he did a decent job of playing the tough, tortured cop role, as usual. And the plot and story was intriguing and thought-provoking. Overall, it was a decent flick.
0.3
Dance Flick (2009)
2.5/5
Oh Wayans Brothers, you crack me up! Seriously, this movie is stupid but it has it's laughs. It's no Scary Movie but it's certainly better than the other knockoff spoof movies that have happened over the past few years. Don't expect much and you might enjoy it!
0.3
The Butterfly Effect (2004)
3.5/5
It had been quite some time since I had seen this movie and it's one of those that whenever it's on TV, I can watch it. It's thrilling and intense and dramatic and with some interesting and unpredictable story angles. Some of the acting fell flat (Kutcher, who is never really my favorite anyway) but the story held it up enough.
0.3
17 Again (2009)
3.5/5
I expected much less from this one but was thoroughly surprised. Efron, whom I hadn't seen in anything else, is surprisingly talented and I enjoyed his comedic timing (and good looks!). Leslie Mann is perfect, as always, and even Thomas Lennon is fabulously hysterical. The only thing that fell flat was Matthew Perry, who is thoroughly unbelievable as the older version of handsome Efron and just kind of isn't funny. He also lacks chemistry with any of the other characters. But there were some funny parts and since I expected it to be horrible, I fully enjoyed it in all of its mediocrity.
0.3
This movie is moronic but enjoyable at the least. I love Will Ferrell and Danny McBride and while having never seen the original TV series, I can only hope that it was as weird and trippy as this movie, because otherwise, there was no explanation for the acid trip I felt like I was on during the entire thing. But there were some great comedic moments that made for an enjoyable viewing so it wasn't all that bad.
0.3
The Proposal (2009/I)
3.5/5
This is a romantic comedy that worked. Even Steve enjoyed it. I think it was because Bullock successfully played well against her norm and pulled off the malicious, snarky bitch and that coincided nicely with Reynolds witty, dry, sarcastic wit with impecable comedic timing. The story is typical and some of the jokes fall short but there are moments and between them and Betty White, this is a movie that can be enjoyed by both sexes.
0.3
Away We Go (2009)
4.5/5
What a beautiful, wonderful movie! This was a fabulous story - a moving, heartwarming tale of two people who learn to take care of each other, how to be grown ups and find the place they were always meant to be. I found it inspiring and loved, LOVED Rudolph and Krasinski in it. They had so much great chemistry and they were the perfect blend of cluelessly funny and wondrously in love and devoted to each other. Overall, this was a huge two thumbs up!
0.3
9 (2009/I)
3/5
This was a strange but interesting movie. The animation and attention to detail was beautiful and the storyline was unique. I even think that the choice of character voices were perfect. It just seemed to fall flat at times and was a bit slow, even for a short movie. Overall, I was glad we didn't pay for it.
0.3
I knew what I was getting into with this movie - I KNEW I was gonna cry! And I did. But it's not bad - it's actually sweet and bittersweet at the same time. I love dog movies and I loved the story behind this one, about how your pets stick with you through thick and thin, good times and bad. I always like Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson was even tolerable in this movie. Overall, it was a enjoyable Saturday evening film even though I cried like a baby.
0.3
Crank: High Voltage (2009)
3/5
Steve loved this movie but I was mediocre about it. It was such a guys movie and while I can handle pretty much anything blood, guts, guns, nudity, sex, etc. this was just so over the top that it almost didn't make sense. But it's saving grace I think was that it didn't seem to take itself too seriously either so that helped alot. But it was pretty much what you expected - violence, nudity, raunchiness, blood, gore, etc. So not too bad!
0.3
Zombieland (2009)
4.5/5
YES, YES, YES! Seriously, this movie was fan-freaking-tabulous! It was hysterical with great acting and even a decent storyline. Everyone was superb in their own respective rights - Harrelson, Eisenberg, Stone, Breslin - all played their parts to a tee! And the humor was so over the top and smart that I laughed so hard my sides hurt. I could watch this over and over again. Oh, and two huge thumbs up for the unexpected surprise but wonderfully played cameo towards the end.
0.3
Jennifer's Body (2009)
3.5/5
I enjoyed Jennifer's Body much more than I thought I would. I found the quirky, Juno-like humor entertaining at times, though at times some of the overused slang and lingo made me groan. Amanda Seyfried was perfect in the movie as the nerdy sidekick friend who always plays second fiddle to hot cheerleader Jennifer but eventually triumphs. The only thing I didn't like was Megan Fox, simply because I don't like her and also because she can't act. Don't get me wrong, she's perfect to play the role of hot and vapid whore of a cheerleader but when she tries to expand into something deeper, she's awful. But overall, it was a fun, roaring good time.
0.3
Swingers (1996)
3/5
I think Swingers is one of those movies that loses it luster or impact if you don't see when it's first out. I had always heard that it was such a great movie and how cool it was and how it was everybody's favorite so I added it to my Netflix queue. But I was a bit disappointed. Mostly because I watched it long after the catchphrases and lingo and outfits were cool, so everything just seemed dated. Some of the things I thought, wow, ok, that's where that lingo came from but others never caught on so they seemed awkward and annoying in the movie. Favreau was whiny and while Vince Vaughn was perfect in the character he played, the character was annoying and just got under my skin. So overall, I liked the story and the concept but I could see how people loved it so much more back in the nineties.
0.3
I have to give this just a mediocre rating. Anne Hathaway and Patrick Wilson carried it as I felt they had great chemistry and really explored their characters to the fullest. But that's about the only good thing. The supporting cast was forgettable, the plot was slow and almost boring and you'll see the twist at the end coming a mile away if you have half a brain. It wasn't awful and was enough for a Saturday afternoon, but I'm glad we didn't pay money for it.
0.3
Adventureland (2009)
3.5/5
I liked this movie, but I had to not compare it to Superbad. With stuff like this, you're either going to get raunchy, gut-busting comedy like Superbad, 40-Year-Old Virgin, Forgetting Sarah Marshall, or sweet, subtle comedy laced with a sturdy emotional core like Funny People, Knocked Up and Nick and Norah's Playlist. Adventureland was in the sweet, subtle comedy and it did it's job well. There were times where I thought it fell a little flat but the other moments, where there was a story to tell and a joke to convey, purely made up for them. Eisenberg is the new Michael Cera in all of his nerdy awkwardness that somehow makes him hip. I still am not the biggest fan of Kristen Stewart because I feel that no matter what character she is given, she plays it with those same downtrodden faces and gestures of Bella. Even Ryan Reynolds was a standout here, playing a quieter version of some of his more typical playboy roles. Overall, it was a very nice journey through one's coming of age story with quite a few laughs thrown in for good measure.
0.3
The Last House on the Left (2009)
3.5/5
I have a dilemma with this one. On one hand, I was pleasantly surprised that it was way better than just your average B-grade horror/thriller/drama flick. On the other hand, we rented the unrated version and that one included a very long and uncomfortable rape/killing scene that literally brought me to tears and unable to watch. But overall, I think that's part of what made this movie good - the actors were wonderful and the characters were developed enough to where you felt them - their pain, their anguish, their instincts. This was definitely a nice surprise!
0.3
From Dusk Till Dawn (1996)
3.5/5
Another movie where Tarantino had his fingers in the bucket, we actually caught this one on our Netflix queue and it had been so long since we'd seen it, we decided to give it a try. I actually enjoyed it more than Inglorious Bastards and some of the other Tarantino spots and that's mostly because of the campiness of it all. And the performances that people like Clooney, Keitel and Lewis turned in were absolutely fabulous and spot on. Such a great fun movie to watch. And how badass is Clooney!? *swoon*
0.3
Inglourious Basterds (2009)
4/5
I can't pinpoint exactly what it is I liked about this movie. It was funny but dark. It was slow but over before I knew it (which is saying something for it's 2+ hours running time). It was typical Tarantino-fare but centered on such an odd time and place that you were a bit thrown. Regardless, I did enjoy it. I found the characters phenomenal, especially Pitt's Aldo Raine. Overall, I loved it much more than I ever expected.
0.3
12 Rounds (2009)
3/5
Oh, this movie! LOL Steve has such a penchant for B-grade movies and if they have WWE stars in them, he's there. But this - good lord. It wasn't awful but you can't call it good because it ripped off so many other movies - Speed, Die Hard, even Cena's first movie, The Marine. And John Cena should really stick to wrestling. It's not that he can't act - it's just his gorilla face and huge size really distracts you from the fact that he's supposed to be a normal everyday guy. Definitely glad we rented this one!
0.3
The Burrowers (2008) (V)
2.5/5
Awful! Story was disjointed, character development was absent. It was predictable, poorly acted and just plain stupid. There's a reason it went straight to video.
0.3
District 9 (2009)
4.5/5
Wow! This was phenomenal! The story was engaging and sad all at once. It made me feel bad for being a human because I knew that's exactly how we would act. The character development was well done, the story was nicely thought out. Overall, a great movie.
0.3
Titanic (1997)
3.5/5
I'm in the camp of just kind of liking this movie. I don't hate it like some but it's not lovable. It's long but it's entertaining. I like the individual story of Jack and Rose and how Cameron expertly used that to tell the story of the Titanic. Of course it was overdramatic and grandiose but it was still fairly enjoyable for my taste.
0.3
Alvin and the Chipmunks (2007)
4/5
What an adorable movie! I had never seen it before and thoroughly enjoyed it. The chipmunks were adorable, the story was well told and believable and even Jason Lee was great as Dave. Perfect way to pass an hour or so (P.S. my favorite is Theodore!)
0.3
I love, love, love this movie and will usually watch it every time I catch it on. It's classic Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall and there are just so many great moments, stories and characters in this film. Two thumbs up!
0.3
Guess Who (2005)
3/5
I actually kind of liked this movie. Ashton Kutcher is funny when he plays to type and I find Bernie Mac really laughable in this one too, played up against Kutcher. It was light and entertaining and a good thing for a Friday night.
0.3
The Haunting in Connecticut (2009)
3.5/5
This was a fairly enjoyable horror movie ... it had an interesting twist on an old story. The main character was decently developed and well acted. The story was conceivable. There were some decent creep out moments and scares. Overall, a fairly good movie!
0.3
Horsemen (2009)
3/5
The premise of this movie was intriguing and could have gone very well but they fucked it up with some huge plot holes and a self-righteous attempt at morality at the end. It was disappointing to say the least!
0.3
Knowing (2009)
3.5/5
This was a pretty decent movie. I went into not expecting much and came out pleasantly surprised. It was a standard end of the world story with a nice new take. Nicholas Cage is of course, Nicholas Cage - fairly decent actor, a little bit crazy. The concepts and storyline were believable and well developed. Just an overall good movie!
0.3
Oh so hysterical! I loved this movie and I'm normally not a big fan of Ben Stiller. He was fine in this though mostly because I considered him part of the ensemble. Downey Jr was great and the rest of the surprise appearances by some awesome stars (McConaughey and Cruise) were fabulous!
0.3
The Ugly Truth (2009)
3.5/5
My love for this movie isn't based solely on my obsession with Gerard Butler but that didn't hurt. This was an enjoyable story and even Katherine Heigl, who has become increasingly irritating lately, was rather decent. Had I paid for this movie, I might have been disappointed. As it was, it made for a nice, entertaining watch for the afternoon.
0.3
Funny People (2009)
4.5/5
Some people hated this movie but that's because they went in expecting uproarious raunchy comedy like 40-Year-Old Virgin and that's what this movie was not. Apatow shows an incredible talent for telling the stories of how people grow and change when put in awkward situations and he has a knack of making his characters, ALL of them, likeable, funny and enjoyable. Some of the best people in his films tend to be the supporting cast and Funny People did not lack in this department either. I enjoyed every one in this movie and thought Apatow did a great job of interspersing the heartwarming storyline of growth and change with funny moments. I went into this not expecting 40-Yr-Old Virgin and came out thoroughly entertained and having gotten exactly what I wanted!
0.3
Coraline (2009)
4/5
I don't think I've ever had a movie before that has enchanted me and creeped me out so simultaneously. Coraline is a story of a girl who has to learn the hard way not to take for granted parents who, albeit may be a little neglectful at this particular moment, truly do love her and are trying to do what's best for her. It's a beautiful but strange story that will get under your skin. The stop-motion is superb and weaves a wonderful fantasy world that sucks you in and makes you never want to leave. The characters are eccentric and quirky and well-developed and overall, this is a fabulously well done movie!
0.3
Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (2009)
3/5
I've always liked the Ice Age series. I think the voice talent and character development is wonderful. The stories and plots are engaging and well-developed - never a dull moment. And all of this was true for this third movie as well, which is surprisingly nice because the longer you go in a series, the more they tend to fall flat. An enjoyable little animated flick!
0.3
Brüno (2009)
2/5
HATED IT! Seriously, I loved Borat. I laugh out loud everytime I watch it. It never offended me. Never got under my skin. Nothing like that. Bruno was awful. Cohen tried way to hard to be over the top and offensive and he fell flat. Enough to where even the participants weren't engaged enough for their reactions to be funny. There were a few laughable moments but sitting through an hour a half for a few chuckles is not my idea of a good movie.
0.3
Serendipity (2001)
3.5/5
I love this movie! It's a sweet and refreshing romantic comedy and Beckinsale and Cusack are perfect together. It's a great, light fare to watch whenever you need to feel a little of warm gooey loving feeling.
0.3
Revolutionary Road (2008)
2.5/5
This review is kind of skewed because I got incredibly bored with the movie and turned if off halfway through. I was also drinking. But it was boring. I might give it another shot down the line but for now. *Yawn*
0.3
Doomsday (2008)
3/5
This is a difficult movie to rate. On one hand, it was disjointed and choppy and unable to decide if it wanted to be 28 Days Later or Mad Max or Braveheart. On the other hand, it was kind of cool to watch.
0.3
Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009)
4.5/5
I don't care if the critics hated this movie. I don't care if Megan Fox is a giant douchenozzle who can't keep her mouth shut. I don't care the only actors in this film with even a modicum of talent are the robots and the parents. I only care about the fact that Michael Bay likes to blow shit up and make giant robots curb stomp one another. That, my friends, is why this movie is fucking awesome!
0.3
This was a beautiful movie as far as landscape and scenery goes. The story was well developed and it made me sad to know that it was based on a true story. I should have just stuck to the movie though because after reading the true details I was mad because the guy was stupid for doing what he did. But the movie itself was a beautiful homage to how people can touch our lives and shape who we are and teach us things we'd never thought we'd learn.

The Promotion (2008)
2.5/5
This movie was kind of like Employee of the Month only more awkward, which was a shame because it had so much more potential since Sean William Scott and John C Reilly are far superior comedic actors than Dane Cook and Dax Shepard. And Jenna Fischer is levels above Jessica Simpson. But it wasn't funny and I can't quite pinpoint why - the humor was awkward and it seems like everyone took themselves way too seriously. Not one of my favorites at all.

The International (2009)
3.5/5
This was overall entertaining and enjoyable. I like Clive Owen and the story was fresh and new.

I am so back and forth on this movie. I like Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway together and there were a few laugh out loud moments. The story was unique and it really spoke to how women can be the best of friends but the worst of enemies. The whole problem is that the message is wrong, the idea that something as trivial and materialistic as a wedding can ruin twenty years of friendship is absolutely ludicrous. So a bit enjoyable but overall really lame for normal not crazy and materialistic women.

My Bloody Valentine (2009)
3.5/5
This movie was much more enjoyable than I expected. For a slasher flick, it was gory and bloody and there was enough nudity and gratuitous violence to keep Steve and I entertained, respectively. I just wish I had seen it in 3-D.

The Hangover (2009)
4.5/5
I was concerned that this was going to be another one of those movies where all the funny parts were in the trailer. Totally not true! It was hysterical and just when you thought they had exhausted the funny, there was more. This was pure comedy gold and all of the leads were excellent in the parts they were cast in. The story was believable and enjoyable and was definitely a great movie all around for both sexes. Plus, Bradley Cooper = HOT!

Such a fun movie! Still wondering how to use the seashells. :-)

He's Just Not That Into You (2009)
3.5/5
I liked this movie up until the end. It spoke a lot of truths and had some very realistic, funny moments. But the whole need for Hollywood happy endings for all the of the couples ruined the entire message of the movie. Bradley Cooper = HOT (though a little less because he's kind of an asshole in the movie). The other characters turned in decent performances as well. Overall, it was fun but quite a letdown.

Forrest Gump (1994)

To this day, this movie cannot come on TV and I NOT watch it. It is truly, truly fabulous and great all around - story, acting, characters, etc.

Steve had me watch this. It was fun. I was never the biggest fan of Mike Meyers but this was back in his earlier day so it was fairly enjoyable.

Days of Thunder (1990)
3.5/5
I used to love this movie as a kid and I'm not sure why. Perhaps it was the standard Tom Cruise crush or the whole Nascar theme which I inevitably felt brought me closer to my Southern roots. But I caught this the other day after many years and while it was still enjoyable, it wasn't as awesome as I remembered. Maybe it's because Nicole and Tom are no longer together or because we now all know that rubbing really ISN'T racing. There are other car movies that I enjoy much better - like Talladega Nights. This took itself much more seriously than it should have.

I'm not a pot smoker but this looked funny and was on Instant on Netflix so we watched it. There were some good points and some very funny parts. Overall, it was a decent way to occupy an hour and a half.

I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry...
3.5/5
I forgot how much I really liked this movie until I saw it again this weekend but it was hysterical. There were some really awesome moments in it and I still do love Kevin James (in spite of Paul Blart). And Nick Swarsdon as the butterfly is awesome!

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009)
3.5/5
This actually wasn't bad considering it was a "prequel" without Kate Beckinsale. But the story was interesting and they did a good job of weaving the movie around Lucian and Viktor's relationship and telling their story, making Rhona Mitra, ultimately, a secondary character. As entertaining as the rest.

Paul Blart: Mall Cop (2009)
2.5/5
I normally like Kevin James and I think I expected much more out of this movie. There were some funny moments but overall, it was really kind of lame.

This was a beautiful film! I loved the awkwardness, the beauty, the comfort, the joy - it was touching and heartwarming and funny. Steve Carrell was superb and even Dane Cook was tolerable. I walked away from it loving the family dynamic more than I liked the love story. Definitely a recommendation!

This was a decent flick, much better than I expected. The fight scenes were awesome and the characters were fairly developed. The story was a bit recycled but it was told in an entertaining way so I was ok with it.

Wow, what a blast from the past! I was never a big fan of Brenden Fraser but there were truly some laugh out loud moments in this one. Elizabeth Hurley definitely annoyed me though.

Saw this on HBO on Saturday morning and had forgotten how funny it was. I had remembered it as being fairly stupid but after a second look, the subtle laughs really shone through and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Star Trek (2009)
4.5/5
I wasn't a fan of the original series but I watched TNG like it was my job! Regardless, I LOVED this movie! It was entertaining and thrilling and pretty and the characters were well cast. I walked out of there wanting more and hoping they continue with this series of stories and actors. So. FREAKING. COOL!

The Wrestler (2008)

This was such a heartbreakingly beautiful movie! Every character turned in fabulous performances, the story was real and pulled at my heart strings. I absolutely loved this - it was one of the realest movies I had seen in a long time.

I was kind of ... bored with this movie! Visually it was stunning but the story and the characters weren't engaging enough to keep me interested. It was just kind of meh.

The Break-Up (2006)

There were hilariously great moments in this movie and I loved Jennifer Aniston and Vince Vaughan. The ending was disappointing though but I guess that's real life and real life isn't always full of happy endings.

This was one of the cuter Sandler movies and rather enjoyable for a Saturday night. Not enough to make me love it but nice enough to keep me entertained for awhile.

The Pleasure of Your Company (2006)
3.5/5
Pulled this up at random on Netflix instant queue and was glad I did. This was a smart, loveable and funny movie, nothing like the stupid funny rom-coms (I'm looking at you Stiller) but actually enjoyable. And I love, love, love Isla Fischer.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian...
4/5
I was really surprised with this movie because I thought it was going to be mediocre at best. This was a truly enjoyable movie to watch. It had all sorts of action and adventure and the special effects were wonderful. It made me really excited for the next one and hope that they make it.

There were funny parts to this movie but overall, I didn't find it enjoyable. I am so over Ben Stiller and why does he get to be an asshole and get what he wants? Malin Ackerman was pretty good in this too and I love Danny McBride.

Fast & Furious (2009)

Did not disappoint because I did not expect anything more than I got out of the first one. Loved the fact that there was a lot of muscle in this one. Not the biggest fan of imports.

The Fast and the Furious (2001)

An enjoyable way to spend a few hours because stunts are nice and the cars are pretty cool. Walker and Diesel turn in performances that you'd pretty much expect but that's not why I watch the movie. I like fast and shiny cars!

War (2007)

This movie was just ok. The fighting and action sequences were decent but the story was boring and rather predictable. An ok waste of time to say the least.
